These 5 mm thick CNC71 Motorsport Driveshaft spacers are designed for the BMW TYPE 188 and help prevent increased stress on the driveshaft joints by bringing their operating point closer to the optimal position.
Lowering the vehicle and running wheels with significant negative camber are the primary factors contributing to increased wear on these components.
If you are experiencing issues with twisting joints and your vehicle is significantly lowered and/or the rear wheels are set with negative camber, you can conduct a simple test:
Unscrew the joints from the flanges on the differential, lower the vehicle to the ground, and observe the gap that forms between the driveshaft and the flange. If this gap is too large for the joints to operate within the manufacturer’s optimal range, the use of a spacer is recommended.
Using a single 5 mm spacer does not require the replacement of bolts; it can be installed with the original bolts. However, if the gap is too large, you may use two or more spacers per side. In such cases, longer bolts will be required, and it is also recommended to use thread-locking adhesive.
The spacers are made from steel and coated with a layer of zinc to protect against corrosion.
